Ready for an amusing exercise in free will (or lack thereof)? Here's a little game I like to play with the kids. Sing the first part of a jingle from a TV ad you hear constantly. 🎵 Like a good neighbor... 🎶
And now, wait for the reply. If the unsuspecting contestant in the room finishes the jingle, you get a point! You can do this with a familiar song, too, of course! Just as long as you get them to finish it out loud, you win a point. I find this game is most successful with the kiddos. So impressionable...
A slight variation on this game is The Traveling Yawn. Pretend to yawn. A crowded room works great (We're talking pre-COVID times if you're playing with strangers. Nowadays, you won't see their mouth if it's hidden behind a mask). Then count how many yawns follow around the room. Shoot for a high score! Beware: this can backfire. Watching others yawn will possibly bring up the urge within yourself. Fight that urge at all costs! A misstep here will forfeit all your points!
Here's another amusing game to pass the time at red lights: Once a car pulls up behind you at a red light and comes to a stop, creep your car forward a few inches. Then watch to see if the car behind you creeps forward too. Point! Do it again. Watch closely... Haha! Another point! How many times can you pull the same car forward? I've got a high score of 4 in this game. But I'm always trying to beat it. *Have you ever found yourself pulling forward after the car in front of you does? 😏 You just got played! (Insert the Simpsons character Nelson Muntz's mocking laugh here)
Enjoy!
