Thanksgiving is an odd holiday for me. On one hand, I love to eat until it hurts. Today, I'm given certain allowances. It's practically expected. And I can even be forgiven if I pass out in the recliner for a few minutes afterward, as long as I pick up the detritus eventually.
On the other hand, Thanksgiving is traditionally supposed to celebrate a gathering of Pilgrims and Native Americans eating peacefully together. But, considering the theft and genocide that resulted for generations since... well, it leaves a bad taste.
So, my family doesn't celebrate history today. We instead focus on family, gratitude, and perspective. We've made a tree on our living room wall out of construction paper for the past couple of years around this time. We cut out leaves, and write something we are thankful for on each one. The sentiments on the leaves range from friends and family, to smart phones and games. The election was even mentioned, and it wasn't even my suggestion!
For the purpose of Whatever This Is, I want to say thank you to my Whatev Heads. I have been having a lot of fun with this blog experiment. The fact that a couple of people out there enjoy reading it, too, gives me a real warm feeling inside. Thank you for making my hats fit a little tighter; I hate when the wind blows them off and I have to chase them down the road.
However you celebrate your holidays, I hope that you are all healthy, safe, and happy. And thank you for giving me a reason to continue with this creative expression. I hope you continue to be entertained. I'll keep on trying to give you my best.
