Different Shelves for Different Elves

Writer: Jamie BlaiseJamie Blaise

Overheard cellphone conversation between two elf on the shelfs:

"...trick is to get creative. You gotta find a spot you've never hidden before. Gotta keep those kids on their toes."
"Yesterday, I sat in their refrigerator. Hugging the syrup. I mean, I guess I had the syrup crust to lick off when nobody was looking, but... it's cold in there!"
"Not me, man. I won't do the fridge. I actually consider this gig a vacation. No more running errands for the big guy for a little while, no more smelly reindeer, and no more snow and freezing temperatures. When I hang out with the kids, I always choose a nice, quiet, warm, non-reindeer-smelling spot to chill. Why not? We deserve a little R&R!"
"I feel ya, dude! Me, I'd much rather enjoy a sweet spot on the counter, preferably within reach of some candy. And I don't mind making a mess, either! Let someone else do the cleaning for a few weeks!"
"Haha! Yes! Making messes is all part of the deal, in my opinion! These kids gotta show us they can work for the big guy's good graces!"
"Sometimes, just for fun, I'll toss some sugar all over the counter and make snow angels all night."
"Good one!"
"Thanks!"
"I like to spread post-it notes all over the house."
"Post-it notes?"
"Yeah! Those colorful, sticky little pieces of paper."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
"Good point!"
"One time, I went into one of their dressers and grabbed their underwear. Clean underwear, mind you! And I made myself a little hammock in the corner so I could watch over them in comfort."
"Ewwww!"
"They were clean!"
"Still! Yuck!"
"Haha!"
"I strapped myself to their ceiling fan the other night and went for a ride. That was pretty sick! Until one of the kids got worried I'd fall off, so they shut the fan off... I guess it was for the best. I was getting a little dizzy."
"Cool idea! I'm going to have to use that!"
"Go for it!"
"I'm kind of sad that it's almost over. The big guy comes to collect us, then drops off all the presents. Then the kids are too busy unwrapping toys to even miss us!"
"No... I think they still miss us. At least, I hope they do. I sure miss them every year! Hide and seek is my favorite!"
"Hey, wouldn't it be cool if they would hide and we could do the seeking for once?"
", man! That would be so cool!"
"Yeah."
"Yeah..."
*sigh*
*sigh*
"Merry Christmas, dude."
"Yeah, you too. I guess we better get going and pick our next hiding spots."
"Yeah, I guess we better."
"I'll catch you at the Pole after. We'll have some eggnog."
"Alright. Sounds good. Seeya!"
"Yeah, seeya."
